Flexibility procurement by distribution system operators is seen as a promising tool to avoid large investments in electricity distribution networks. In this interview, Tomas Gomez Roman (Comillas University) is asked what the current barriers are to enable flexibility procurement. Also, the interaction between flexibility procurement and other tools to unlock flexibility at the edge of the grid, i.e. network tariffs and smart connection agreements, is discussed
